Our Values

Picture
We cherish diversity, ensuring that each and every individual receives a tailor-made plan, which is led by the choices they make. The journey to wellbeing is different for everybody - so why would the service be the same?
Picture
We empower both the people we support, and our team members, to be the best that they can be. We use active support to promote independence, and offer a range of enablement programmes, including life coaching, skills training, and confidence building.
Picture
We strive to discover innovative ways to meeting needs, which may involve the use of assistive technologies. We partner with other organisations to ensure the highest quality provision is received, and work in a flexible and adaptable way to achieve your outcomes.

Overall wellbeing is only achieved through looking after both our physical, and mental health. At Valued Lives, we promote 'The 5 Ways to Wellbeing' - Connect, Be Active, Take Notice, Keep Learning, and Give.

I am an experienced health service professional, with a specialism in mental health. I have extensive board, clinical and general management experience working in mental health inpatient units, community services, day services and children’s services. Since 2010 I have been Chief Executive of Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.

I have always been committed to the delivery of high quality care and have actively pursued the development of quality services. I moved to Suffolk Health’s strategy department, in the 1990’s to gain a more strategic view of services, subsequently developing a part time role with the Sainsbury Centre for Mental Health to develop my evaluation and strategic thinking skills. I then took a board post with Plymouth Community Services/Primary Care Trust to enable me to translate strategic thinking and into real services.

Following on from seven years as Director of Mental Health at Plymouth Primary Care Trust where I lead the service through significant change, I was approached by Tribal Secta to join their health practise and develop their mental health expertise. This move allowed me to participate in the NHS at a national level and review a number of different services. I believe that this variety of experience in the commercial sector adds to the value that I offer, in February 2010 when I joined the board of Cornwall Partnership NHS Trust.

I have a clear logical mind and have a good grasp of information technology and its uses and potential benefits. My key strength lies in my proven ability to develop and then deliver upon health strategies within the NHS performance management framework. This has helped me through the steep learning curve I had in becoming a Foundation Trust Chief Executive and ensuring that we maintained our high performance, delivering a surplus and obtaining a CQC rating of Good in all domains, growing the organisation from £70 million to £160 million.
